an update of the Metra Electric route. I have done a lot of work on the equipment that will ultimately come with the route. here is a partially completed South Shore Line train.

A Metra number on a former C&NW car would have been 87xx, if a cab car. It wasn't a cab car, it was the second car behind the engine. I rode it on Tuesday. It also didn't have the old flip over C&NW seats that had a metal back & upholstery on just one side, but the current seats that just flip back & forth with upholstery on both sides.

The earliest CNW painted bi-level cars were from 1955 (CNW 1-16 became Metra 7600-7606, 7900/1, 7607-7613). non of these batches remain with Metra. Only 292 of 674 cars are less than 50 years old.

Metra bought the wrong type of equipment for regional service including old frieght engines and the new cars on order. Sure they ran in service doesnt mean its the best use of equipment.
