Mike Hulefeld, president and chief operating officer of Ochsner Health, announced he will step down at the end of 2025, marking the conclusion of a 27-year career with the nonprofit healthcare system.
UQ-Ochsner will continue to accept applications and conduct interviews for the 2026 intake on a rolling basis until all seats are filled. July 7 is the deadline for second round of interview.
UQ-Ochsner only starts in January because the academic year in Australia runs from January through November. If you wanted to start in January 2025, you'd need to apply ASAP (in the next couple months ideally). If you wanted to start in January 2026, the application may already be open, but the first interviews wouldn't be until March/April 2025.

UQ-Ochsner students spend most of their time year 3/4 at the main Ochsner hospital. There are some satellite sites where you can be assigned for a couple weeks for some rotations, but most of them are within reasonable driving distance from main campus.
Without a doubt Ochsner is the strongest IM program in Louisiana. I have rotated there, and the residents are very happy. They have a nice mix of indigent and private pay patients and a good lifestyle. The facilities and technology are amazing, much more like the Ritz than a hospital (they even have robots that run errands throughout the campus).
The Ochsner program has had interviews for a while now. The UQ traditional program recently added interviews as a requirement. Ochsner made them add a interview after the first couple of classes made it to New Orleans and there were some students that personality wise were not fit for medicine. This is the first year they are doing MMI though.

I have Microsoft Word so that is what I normally use. The only time I find Wordpad useful is right after I install Windows and before Office is installed. For the computers I have that don't have Word I have installed FreeOffice. Its Word equivalent is called TextMaker. It has its own file format but I changed its default to ".docx".
